Rishi Sunak was confronted by a trans voter during the GB News People’s Forum where he was forced to defend the Government’s LGBT policies.
The lively question and answer session saw Sunak asked by a barrister from Somerset why LGBT people should vote Conservative.
“If you look at our record over the past few years, it’s one I hope you and everyone else are proud of”, he said.
“It was a Conservative government under one of my predecessors who made sure we have same sex marriage.”

“More recently we’ve made sure that all our public services work better, that we’ve made changes in the NHS for provision of healthcare services for same sex couples.
“That gives hopefully you and everyone else a sense that this is a country whose values are reflected in our party and in government.”

Sunak added that while it’s important that society is “tolerant and compassionate” on trans issues, he added that biological sex is also important.
“I don’t think that should be a controversial thing to say”, he said.
“I think that is a relatively common sense view that I think is held by the vast majority of people.
“Unfortunately, this debate over the past few years has become incredibly charged and polarised.

“Are we respectful and tolerant of people and their differences, particularly when they are going through sensitive things? Of course.
“Do we think biological sex is important when we’re thinking about women’s safety and health? Of course. I think most people would think that.
“These things are important when we’re considering our children, which is why we’ve recently published guidance for schools about how to deal with these issues in our classrooms.”
LGBT issues are quickly becoming a key battleground ahead of the general election with both Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer often pressed on their definition of a woman.
The Prime Minister has frequently lashed out at Starmer’s previous difficulties in giving a clear answer on the matter.
Although his attacks in Parliament during last week’s Prime Minister’s Questions landed him in hot water with the mother of Brianna Ghey, a transgender teenager who was murdered, being present at the time.
The Prime Minister refused to apologise and instead took issue with his critics, claiming they were using the case for political point scoring.
