Amy Dowden has publicly shown her support to BBC Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas after the 63-year-old candidly shared a cancer scare.
Ballas revealed she’d undergone three biopsies earlier this year after doctors found lumpy tissue in one of her breasts.
The dancer and TV show judge claimed she was “worried I’ve worked myself to death” before describing the scare as “terrifying”.
“To have the needle go in your body to numb it before the biopsy. I feel very emotional,” she opened up to The Sun last week. “I’m not the same at work at the moment, so I’m teaching, but it’s constantly on my mind.
“I feel very emotional. Every time the phone rings I think, ‘Oh, maybe they are my results’.”
A few days on and Ballas has taken to social media to reveal she received the all-clear from doctors which prompted floods of congratulatory messages – including one from 33-year-old Strictly pro Dowden.
Dowden was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year and after rounds of treatment that included chemotherapy, shared the incredible news that there was no evidence of cancer back in February.
The dancer has bravely shared her battle with the illness over the past year, including the emotional moment she shaved her head and revealed a near-fatal sepsis battle amid her treatment.
After hearing Ballas had been given the all-clear following her doctor’s appointment, Dowden took to her Strictly co-star’s Instagram page.
In response to Ballas’s latest post, Dowden penned: “So pleased for you. Have been worried!

“Well done for getting the message out there and raising awareness, lots of love xxxxx.”
On the post in question, Ballas had written: “Thank you to you all for your well wishes following my two mammograms, one ultrasound and three biopsies last week.
“I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear – there is no cancer present. X.”
Dowden was far from the only well-wisher after learning of Ballas’s results, with one fan echoing: “Great news. Mine was diagnosed a year ago following a routine mammogram, so shows how important they are. So happy for you.”
A second added: “So happy for you x I went through a scare recently and can relate totally, it’s a very emotional time. Glad you have come through it. Take care xx.”
Meanwhile, a third weighed in: “Have just been telling my friend you were waiting for the results. I can now message her with your good news. As you say, don’t put off a mammogram, that’s how mine was discovered 12 years ago now.”

And a fourth commented: “Fantastic news Shirley. I’m so happy you are okay. You’ve been through enough in life to have to go through something like cancer too.” (sic)
Fellow Strictly stars Tess Daly, Claudia Winkleman, Gorka Marquez and Angela Rippon also showed their support by liking Ballas’s announcement.
