GB News presenter Patrick Christys has opened up on overcoming his battle with alcoholism, which he reveals left him “on the brink” in his professional and personal life.
Opening up to hosts Anne Diamond and Stephen Dixon, Patrick was joined by partner and fellow GB News presenter Emily Carver has he discussed his struggle with drinking and the “double life” he was leading.
Patrick told GB News: “I was right on the brink. I was waking up in the mornings, throwing up blood, couldn’t go an hour without a drink. I was probably only a couple of weeks away from losing my job here. I was right on the brink, unfortunately, but understandably.
“Of course, with my personal relationship with Emily, the place that I was living, I was about to have have lost that. But I got it just in that nick of time.
“You become a complete liar. And you’ve got things hidden everywhere. And it’s a really horrible thing to have to admit about yourself. And that guilt actually that you feel does actually then end up feeding your addiction because you feel as though you know you’re constantly lying, constantly hiding something.
“You’ve got this double life. Firstly, it’s exhausting because you have two full time jobs managing and hiding your addiction and whatever it is you actually do for a living. And that those things run parallel with each other and it is completely knackering.”
