Tyson Fury accused of a 'lack of discipline' as credentials torn apart ahead of mega Oleksandr Usyk fight

Tyson Fury has been accused of a ‘lack of discipline’, with Bernd Boente insisting the Gypsy King will lose to Oleksandr Usyk when they meet in May.

The duo are currently training for their seismic showdown, with Fury drastically slimmer than he was a few months ago.

Many have scrutinised the Gypsy King after his poor performance against Francis Ngannou in October.

Given how Joshau easily dispatched Ngannou earlier this month, that’s put more pressure on Fury to show what he’s capable of in two months’ time.

Boente, who previously managed the Klitschko brothers, can’t see Fury beating Usyk.

And he also thinks the Ukrainian is ‘mentally stronger’ than his opponent, too.

“I’m predicting a win on points for Oleksandr Usyk in the fight against Tyson Fury,” he told World Boxing News.

“Usyk is the technically better fighter.

“He has significantly more experience in 350 fights as an amateur and across two weight classes. Usyk has also boxed the better opponents as a professional.

“Fury’s best opponents were Wladimir Klitschko, who was almost 40 at that time, and the very limited one-trick pony Deontay Wilder.

“Even Fury’s usual mind games are ineffective against Usyk.

“Usyk is a cool dude and mentally stronger than Fury.”

Boente then proceeded to say Fury had shown a ‘lack of discipline’ over the course of his career.

And he also insisted the Briton was ‘weak’ during his narrow win over Ngannou last year.

“Fury has shown a lack of discipline for many years,” he continued.

“His last weak performance against a boxing newcomer like Francis Ngannou showed this again.

“In this respect, Fury reminds me of Riddick Bowe, who also had great skills but could not overcome his inner demons.”

Fans are currently hoping to see Fury go up against Joshua in the near future.

AJ was written off as a faded force after losing to Usyk for a second time back in 2022.

However, the Watford-born star has been in resurgent form over the past year or so – beating the likes of Jermaine Franklin Jr, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Ngannou.

Boente is pleased to see Joshua improving.

And he’s satisfied the 34-year-old is ‘finding confidence in his old strengths again’ as he looks to enhance his legacy.

“I already said last year as an expert on the mic for DAZN that AJ can potentially become a heavyweight world champion for the third time,” he said.

“I stated that he needs to find the confidence in his old strengths again. This now seems to be the case, especially thanks to the cooperation with Ben Davison.

“AJ’s performance against Ngannou was excellent. The jab finally worked well, and unlike Fury, AJ brutally exposed every weakness of Ngannou.”

Boente believes Joshua would win a potential fight with Fury as well because the Gypsy King is past his best.

“I also believe that Fury has already passed his peak,” he explained.

“For those reasons, that is why I’m predicting a clear victory for AJ in a possible duel with Fury.”
