Sports reporter Paul Coyte has offered an idea as to what is going in the minds of the Verstappen clan as Red Bull team boss Christian Horner continues to be mired in scandal.
He hinted that three-time world champion Max Verstappen may end up taking over from long-term rival Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes hot seat when the Brit moves onto his new venture with Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season.
Speaking on GB News, Coyte said Verstappen’s father, Jos, is embroiled in a “power struggle” with Horner and is seeking to pounce on the current controversy by helping to oust the long-term principal.
“It’s a crazy merry-go-round”, he said.
“The people rubbing their hands together will be Netflix with their new Drive to Survive series.”
He added that while Jos is not on good terms with Horner, he enjoys friendly relations with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and this could mean the Verstappen clan are open to the move.
