Katie Boulter wants to see the WTA continuing “to bridge the gap” to the men’s game by increasing the prize money on the women’s tour after seeing her boyfriend Alex de Minaur walk away with THREE TIMES more than her for winning a similar title.
The British No 1 pulled off the biggest win of her career at the weekend as she secured her first WTA 500 title in San Diego.
She came back from a set down to defeat Marta Kostyuk, which saw her climb up to a career-high ranking of No 27 in the world.
Boulter also won £112,000 from the event – but that paled in comparison to what De Minaur took home for winning the Mexican Open 24 hours earlier.
