Jailer 2 has destroyed Coolie to become the fourth highest grossing Tamil film in history, and Rajinikanth’s juggernaut is now chasing down Leo and the original Jailer. Six days in, the sequel’s domestic net stands at ₹287.80 crore, with a worldwide gross of ₹541 crore, and the 300-crore milestone is a matter of days.
The Day 6 numbers tell the story: ₹45.55 crore net in India on Tuesday, up from Monday’s ₹42.35 crore, a rare midweek uptick that shows the film holding beyond its opening weekend. The day-wise run, 59.70, 37.10, 47.25, 55.85, 42.35, 45.55, is the shape of a genuine blockbuster, not a front-loaded flash.
The record chase
Koimoi’s tally puts Jailer 2 at ₹289.05 crore domestic net in six days, past Coolie’s ₹285.01 crore and into fourth place on the all-time Tamil list. Ahead: Leo at ₹341.04 crore and Jailer at ₹348.55 crore. With the current pace, both are in range, and the film that crossed Rs 200 crore in two days has made a habit of devouring benchmarks.
The Dussehra clash, meanwhile, is no contest. Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali managed ₹6.75 crore on its fifth day, for a worldwide total of ₹52.40 crore, against Jailer 2’s ₹541 crore. Released a day apart, the two films entered the festive period with contrasting fortunes, and the gap has only widened.
Why it works
Director Nelson Dilipkumar brings back Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with an ensemble of Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and S. J. Suryah. The formula, a beloved character, a director who understands the star’s mythos, and a release date that owned the festival, has proven unbeatable.
The scale of the run puts Tamil cinema’s ambition on display, the kind of cultural moment the 2026 Nobel Prize in Medicine announcement shared the news cycle with, for very different reasons. Koimoi’s Day 6 report calls Rajinikanth’s pull unstoppable. Leo is next, and then the original Jailer. The chase is the story now.
